For the most part, Publishers are only interested in prospective clients after they have written their book. At that point, the Publisher determines if the book has any merit and/or the author has any talent. As the Editor of a Self-Publishing Company we have a different approach to the entire situation, as our motives are somewhat different than the standard Commercial Publisher, as they are solely Profit Motivated, and that is not what keeps us going!
Don’t get me wrong … we DO want to make a Profit! But, our true Mission is represented by the Tagline on our Business Cards and other imprinted items:
Because EVERYONE deserves to have their Book Published
This is going to take a while to explain, so get yourself a cold beverage, put your feet up so you are more comfortable, and read on!!!
We have to go back to early 1995, a few months before MORGAN WYNN PUBLISHING became a reality. A writer of Christian Fiction, I had just submitted several manuscripts for Novels to the representative of a Christian Publishing House I had met at a local Writer’s Conference. My wife and I waited with bated breath, and finally received a letter that said, in paraphrased form:
Dear Mr. Allen,
Thank you for submitting your manuscripts to us for consideration. We found the plot lines intriguing, and the characters well developed. The only thing is, Mr. Allen, we found your stories too Christian, and fear that our readership would not be interested in them as a result.
How, you may ask, can a book be “Too Christian” for a Christian Publisher? Well, that’s what my wife and I asked each other, too. When I called the representative I had met with at the Conference he advised me that I reflected the Christian Life so accurately that “the masses” just
wouldn’t be interested in reading my books! At that point I turned to my wife and said, “Now what do we do?” She replied, with a big smile, “Why, we start our own Publishing company” and MORGAN WYNN PUBLISHING became a reality soon thereafter.
When people learned that we had started MORGAN WYNN, they were at first excited, and
then many of them shared the same question with us:
“Can you help me Publish my book?” Having not really thought about doing other people’s books, we told them we would get back to them, and then discussed the situation. We would, we decided, help others and went about drawing up the Guidelines we would follow.
Several of the more important items that came from that discussion were:
If a person has a book they want Published we will help them do so, regardless of the amount of writing talent/ability they have.
We will not do major “overhauls” on their books, but, rather, only “Proof” it, correcting their grammar.
We will advise them that, unless they have a major platform, their investment will
undoubtedly be a money losing proposition.
We will advise them of numerous ways to Market their book, but will not do said Marketing for them!
We will advise them to start by ordering the smallest number of books possible to make the project feasible (At that time it was 100, today it is as few as ONE!), as we knew a number of people who had either been required, or talked into!, buying thousands of books on their first order! (Believe it or not, this is still the case today with many Self-Publishing Firms!)
What we found then, and find now, is that people appreciated both our honesty and fairness,
and they were eager to learn what it meant to be a Published Author, and how to “act” as one. As a result, we developed Seminars on such topics as:
You TOO Can be a Published Author!
The Business of Writing
Travel for Profit
Six Things to Remember When Writing Fiction
Your Story: A Legacy More Valuable than Gold Seminars are all well and good, but with the “explosion” of GOOGLE in 2000 it became obvious that the Internet, and Blogging, was another valid route to go. Personally, I have been Blogging for ten years or so (It took me a while to actually become part of the 21st Century!). I Blog professionally for a number of companies, and have my own Blog as part of GOD’S GOOD NEWS GAZETTE (godsgoodnewsgazette.com), the Literary Arm of MORGAN WYNN PUBLISHING. Revamping the MORGAN WYNN PUBLISHING Website in mid-2021, we decided that it might be beneficial to a number of people if we shared our prowess in the Literary Field via Blogs.
The areas that will be covered in these Blogs include Writing; Publishing; Business; Life Lessons; and Treasure Hunting! We hope to do a Blog a week and trust you will join us often to see if what we have to say can help you in your quest to become a Published Author!
If you have any questions regarding MORGAN WYNN PUBLISHING or the concept of Self-Publishing in general, please E-Mail us: floyd@morganwynnpublishing.com. We will get
back to you as quickly as we can, and make arrangements to enlighten you as much as
possible!
