Because ...
Completing this sentence could conceivably be different for everyone reading this article. When we do our Initial Consultation with our clients I go through a list of eight or ten reasons, and invariably I don’t have all the reasons our clients come up with. So, the question is, why do you want to be published?
The immediate reply is “To become rich and famous.” The reality is, that probably is not going to happen, as the statistics below show:

33% of self-published authors make less than $500 per year
90% of self-published books sell less than 100 copies
20% of self-published authors report making no income from their books
So, if 90% of Self-Published books sell less than 100 copies, the question still remains …. Why do you want to be a Published Author?
Actually, there are a plethora of reasons this could be the case, including but not limited to:
· You have a Burning Desire to tell your story.
· You have a Burning Desire to be Published.
· You want to share your experiences, perhaps with Family and Friends.
· You want to share Your Expertise.
· You want to Validate Yourself as an Authority/Expert.
· You want to ensure that your Knowledge and Wisdom are preserved for posterity!
· You want to share a word that God has given you.
Let me elaborate on just one of these, to give you an idea of how it can manifest itself. My mom had a tremendous life story, but never wrote nor published it. For her to do so today would probably cost $1500 -2000.00. However, I can attest to the fact that every single one of her twenty-one Grandchildren would love to have a copy of such a book!
Let’s now look at this pragmatically – and mathematically! Mom had twenty-one Grandchildren. If she were to publish and distribute her book today, at a cost of $2000.00, she would be spending basically $100.00 per book for them. Can you think of anything that would be more valuable and precious to her Grandchildren that she could purchase for $100.00? I know oodles of people who cringe when I tell them they should make such an investment, thinking it to be way over-priced, but don’t hesitate for a minute to buy electronic games, watches or phones that cost several times that much. In fact, I know people who, throughout the course of a year, spend more than that on Gift Cards at STARBUCKS. Seriously - - which creates better memories - - your life story or a cup of STARBUCKS!
This Blog is not meant to be a Marketing Tool, though I can see why one might think it is! Rather, it is to simply share with you that if you want to get a book published, and choose to Self-Publish, it is no longer considered an act of vanity. Rather, it is a plausible and feasible way to create an unforgettable gift, and maybe create a little side hustle at the same time!
